To the Admiral Black Harry, does your good Captain of the Printz Retter der Meere send greetings, As it has come to my attention of great news in the Barony I do send this request. All though the Printz Retter der Meere is a strong and sturdy sea ready ship, her Sailors are fierce warriors, but sadily few. The ship in only as strong as the sailors that guards its planks, from port to stern, and from bow to aft. Even then, the mightiest of ships still go down. All though few, our sailors defend our seas and protects against the attacks of our shores here in Battle Rock and the surrounding seas of the Far West. Every sailor aboard the Printz Retter der Meere is considered of an utmost importance to the sucsess of the Navy. With this being …Read more >
It is wonderful to see that the SCA is still active in Okinawa. I must admit that I am greatly saddened by the loss of the original name 'Isle of the Blue Mist'. The original name was used so as not to be reminded what happened there mundanly. It was the honorable and respectful thing to do. Perhaps someday the original name can be restored. The Isle of the Blue Mist holds a very special place in my heart. For it was there where I was first introduced to the SCA and became a member in 1988. I recieved my AoA just days before leaving in 1991. If anyone is interested I have photos to add to the history of Isle of the Blue Mist. I had several videos but unfortunatly they were destroyed in a house fire.
In service to the dream,
Lord Sarran The …Read more >
Ok, Well I have started me research on getting us a castle site. There are few with admissions and a few without. The main Website can be found at http://www.wonder-okinawa.jp/002/001/e_zkm_a.html for the Castles that fall under the heritage sites. As I find information and talk to each site and see what can be worked out, I will post follow ups here.

Re: [Far West E-Group] Re: The Baronial Navy of the Far West
Admiral Black Harry,
We are pleased to accept Lord Otto Spilman into our Navy as Captain of the Prinz Retter der Meere. He has truly undergone great travails to reach our shores, and we have every faith that he and his crew, along with the other ships of the Navy, will secure our shores against the dreadful pirate scourge, and prevent the same misfortune from befalling any other ships in our waters. (Any, that is, except those of our enemies!)
Thank you also for the gentle reminder that the seas around Golden Playne remain undefended. Although the Canton's nascent army is mighty, we do indeed need at least one ship to secure our Baronial and Canton waters from the dreadful pirates o…

My Lord Otto,
Please forgive me if you've already gotten an email from me concerning this matter -- I'm not sure if it went through or not.
Greetings Lord Otto from Ketiley, Queen of the West. It has come to Our attention that you are an Artist who's work deserves recognition within Our great Kingdom. I am minded to name you as one of My Queen's Artisans, my representative for the Arts and Sciences in the Barony of the Far West. If you are willing to take this position for the duration of Our Reign We would ask a few things from you.
First of all, this is a position much like that of a Queen's Guard. My safety would be in your hands should I have the honor of visiting Our Great Barony in the …Read more >

- Everyone knows that Yule and “Yuletide” are largely treated as synonyms for Christmas or Christmas time in modern, popular culture. But what precisely is Yule? When people are asked this question, their answers vary, from “the12 days of Christmas” [link to 12th Night article], “the Winter Solstice”, “an old pagan holiday”, to “I don’t really know.” In truth, all of these answers are equally, or at least equally possibly valid, including “we don’t really know.
- What is known is that Yule, or “Yuletide” was an ancient winter festival, that was celebrated by the ancient Germanic tribes, and later specifically adopted into the Christian festival of Christmas. Most indication are that it was a specifically religious festival, likely o…
These are Three Ideas I came up with today for my Device. My favorite is #3. For some reason I can't get a good representation of the colors when I scan them in. Everything looses all its color and become drab. Anywho, on the originals, the colors are nice and rich! Let me know what yall think?
I like these, particularly number 3, but...
- Questions. What are your favorite elements? The horn, the griffin, the bordure? Can you tell me what each color and each charge, line of division, or other heraldic element means to you? (Hint: if it doesn't mean something significant to you, get rid of it.) This is not purely a rhetorical question, I'd really like to know what the more meaningful elements are here for, so I can better help you end up wit…

Here is a Submission Denail for a name registration for Okinawa's SCA group back in 1992 along with a nice history.
Chuzan, Canton of. Name and device resubmission. Per chevron azure and vert, on a sun within a laurel wreath Or, a phoenix rousant to sinister, wings addorsed gules.
The name conflicts with that of Chusan, largest island of the Chusan (or Chou-shan) archipelago, in the East China Sea. The name appears in several general references ('91 Encyclopedia Britannica, vol.3, pp.310, 270; New Century Cyclopedia of Names, vol.I, p.963), so it's important enough to protect.
There was some discussion as to whether this conflicts with Chuzan, the old name of central Okinawa (where the canton is located). The 1986 edition of the Rules for Su…

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that I possibly will be bringing 2-4 new possible members to tonights meetings who want to check out what the SCA is about and possibly join. I wanted to give everyone a heads up so we can plan on something creative at tonights meeting. Want to give the new comers a good first impression. Something else I wanted to discuss was the possiblility to starting "bardic guild". I'm not sure what the guidelines are on creating your own guilds withing the stronghold, but I do see that guilds are a rather common intity in the SCA. I have one more member that has an interest in the bardic arts. Well, not sure if anyone will actually see this prior to tonights meeting, but... I'll see yall there!
